To become finalists, the semifinalists and their high schools must submit detailed scholarship applications, in which they provide information about the semifinalist's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received. A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test. Mann earned $100 for winning first place, McCone won $75 for second place and Bahr received $50 for third place. The posters will be used to help keep the 2,800 miles of snowmobile trails clean in North Dakota. All three students were in Beth Homing's North Dakota Studies class at Horizon.
