To become finalists, the semifinalists and their high schools must submit detailed scholarship applications, in which they provide information about the semifinalist's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received. A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test. Area semifinalists are: Century High School Andrew Carlson, Noah Germolus, Samuel Hinz, Joanna Jensen, Anne Sandstrom and Daniel Was-sim; Home school, Bismarck Michaela Schaff; Dickinson High School Mariah Jorda; Trinity High School, Dickinson Austin Oltmanns; Hazen High School Brandt Vernon; Mandan High School Samuel Rav-naas; and Williston High School Adam Kemp. 7979) Help in thrift store and perform janitorial duties.

Neighbors Network Program (Brenda Bergan, 701-323-4277 Volunteers with pickup trucks to help with picking up and moving donated furniture items to client's homes. Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch (701-223- Winning snowmobile posters Horizon Middle School students Sidney Mann, Alex McCone and Katie Bahr have won the Snowmobile North Dakota "Pack it In Pack it Out" poster contest. Mann earned $100 for winning first place, McCone won $75 for second place and Bahr received $50 for third place. The posters will be used to help keep the 2,800 miles of snowmobile trails clean in North Dakota. All three students were in Beth Homing's North Dakota Studies class at Horizon.

Merit semifinalists listed National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
