Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at The Basilica of St.

James, Jamestown. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Joan Hanson was born Jan. 8, 1936, at Carrington, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Getty) Hanson.

She lived in Carrington for her first few years and then moved with her family to Jamestown where she attended school through the sixth grade. She then moved with her family to Pingree where she completed her education. On July 19, 1952, she married Robert Blaskowski at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Buchanan. They settled in Pingree where Joan worked as a nurses' aide.

In 1963, they moved to Buchanan where she also worked as a nurses' aide until 1970. Robert died on Aug. 31, 1981. Joan continued to live in Buchanan until 1990 when she moved to the Gardenette Apartments in Jamestown. Joan was a member of St.

Margaret's Catholic Church, Buchanan. She loved to read and to spend time with her family and friends, especially grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Survivors include her five children, Randy (Lisa), Buchanan, Jeffrey (Wanda), Fisher, Terry (Kenneth) Ratts, Bismarck, Kathy (Steven) Eckroth, Jamestown, and Bobbi Jo (Mike) Trosen, Miller, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Hanson, Arvada, and Kelly Hanson, Springfield, and one sister, Patricia Nelson, Silt, Colo. 17, 2002, in a Rochester, hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Verle Reinicke officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Pershing Carlson church. Pershing was born in Minot on Sept. 28, 1918, the son of C.O. and Maude (Youngs) Carlson. After graduating from Minot High School, he attended the University of North Dakota.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. While in training as a glider pilot in Louisville, he met and married Selma F. Beasy. During the war Pershing participated in the invasions of Normandy and Holland.

He was shot down while flying relief supplies during the Battle of the Bulge and spent the remainder of the war in a German prison camp. Upon discharge from the service, he worked as a writer for the Minot Daily News, the Ward County Independent and the North Dakota Farmers Union. In 1963 he and his family moved to Bismarck where he worked as chief of the Information and Education Division of the North Dakota State Game and Fish Department until his retirement. Pershing is survived by his wife of 58 years, Selma, and their children, Stephen Carlson and Carol Carlson, Candy and Kelly Bouche', and Chris and Evy Carlson, all of BismarckMandan; as well grandchildren and their spouses, Jeb and Rhea Carlson, Sarah Carlson, Ellen Carlson, Aleisha Bouche', Tyler Bouche', and Chris Walker; and two greatgrandchildren, Jake and Dane Carlson. David Ficek DICKINSON David L. Ficek, 62, Dickinson, died Sept. 18, 2002, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. MDT Saturday at St.

Lippert 93, Ashley, died Sept. 18, 2002, in the Ashley nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, John Gartner GLEN ULLIN- John J.

Gartner, 76, rural Glen Ullin, died Sept. 17, 2002, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Revs. Sebastian Schmidt, OSB, and Cyprian Meier celebrating.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin. John Gartner John was born on the family homestead on March 4, 1926, the seventh of the nine children of Michael and Celestina (Steiner) Gartner. He was raised and educated southeast of Glen Ullin. He married Bernice Eberle on Oct. 23, 1951, at St.

Benedict's Church, rural Beulah. John spent his entire life on the family homestead ranching and farming. His first love was that of his wife and family, followed closely by the love of the land, ranching and raising livestock. John was a very kind, gentle and sincere person whose concern extended beyond family to that of his community. He was involved as a 4-H leader for 25 years, as well as several other volunteer activities such as Glen Ullin Weighing Association, Knights of Columbus, Morton County Fair Board, Credit Union director, Marian Manor director and the Sacred Heart Parish Council and building committee.

One of John's favorite pastimes was visiting with relatives and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, Glen Ullin; two sons, Garyl (Marlene), Mandan, and Joel, Glen Ullin; two granddaughters, Maranda and Ashley, both of Bismarck; one great great-granddaughter, Alexandra McCone, Bismarck; three brothers, Frank, Mandan, Ed and Al and his wife Laura, all of Glen Ullin; three sisters, Minnie and her husband Bill Duppong, New Salem and Glen Ullin, Kay Million, Tacoma, and Mary and her husband Gordon Anderson, Dallas, one sister-in-law, Pat Gartner, Milpitas, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe; and one sister, Agatha Miller. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Thelma Hanson was born June 10, 1918, to John M. and Effie (Kimbrell) Hanson on the family homestead in Wing Township, Wing. Thelma's mother died when she was 4 and she lived with the Andrew Strand family in Canfield Township, returning to her family home prior to starting school. She graduated from Regan High School and earned a teaching certificate from Minot Teacher's College.

She married Oliver Tosseth in 1937 and to this union a son, Larry, was born. In the early '40s she was a Burleigh County 4-H leader and was recognized for having the largest Girl's Club at that time. She moved to Bismarck in 1955 and was employed by various businesses as a bookkeeper-secretary, including Woodmansee's and Drs. Lauer and Lee dental offices. She also enjoyed her years with Avon Cosmetics and as a district manager attained the Circle of Leadership Award.

Thelma married Ben Lein on Jan. 10, 1964. Ben died in 1995. Thelma was a very kind, gentle, sincere and generous person with a smile for everyone. Her first love was her family.

She enjoyed bowling, making costume jewelry, reading and visiting. She always was ready to go to the Elks for dinner. For the past one and one half years, Thelma made her home at Edgewood Vista. She enjoyed her new environment to the fullest. She appreciated and was the first to express her thanks for the wonderful care she received.

Thelma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carole Tosseth, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Trent Tosseth, St. Paul, Corinne (David) Mazzochetti, Rochester, N.Y., and Dean (Kristi) Tosseth, Eau Claire, four great -grandchildren, Ben and Natalie Mazzochetti and Madison and Seth Tosseth; one sister, Helen Fox, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her parents; three brothers; and one sister. The family prefers memorials to the Elks Camp Grassick or Great Plains Assistance Dogs Foundation Box 513, Jud, N.D. 58454.

Allen Wahl CARRINGTON Allen H. Wahl, 80, Carrington, formerly of Ashley, died Sept. 16, 2002, in the Carrington nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley.
