Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, at First Lutheran Church, Washburn. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Irwin Kastner GLEN ULLIN Irwin Kastner, 84, Glen Ullin, was called to his eternal home May 9, 2005.

at a Glen Ullin care center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Elwin Farnsworth Elwin Farnsworth, 77, Bismarck, died May 9, 2005, from the effects of cancer and Parkinson's disease. Owin was a longtime resident of Bismarck, having permanently located there in 1953. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Scott Sheets officiating.

Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan. named Joyce M. Johnson at the Crosby home in which they were both boarding. Elwin and Joyce married in the Presbyterian Manse in Crosby on April 28, 1953.

By the fall of 1953, they had moved to Bismarck, where they took up permanent residence. Until his retirement in 1990, Elwin worked with the North Dakota State Highway Department. During the 1950s and early 1960s, Owin was the project engineer for many highway construction projects around the state of North Dakota. Later he would be involved with design and engineering construction teams that reviewed and inspected highway projects throughout the state. His co-workers referred to him as "Sarge." Elwin was a scholar of Roman and military history.

He was a longtime Green Bay Packer fan. Elwin took up vegetable gardening with a passion in 1963, a hobby which he pursued until shortly before his death. He added rose gardening to his repertoire in 1970 and cultivated 55 beautiful hybrid tea rose bushes at his home at 1506 15th Street. He took great pride in all his children and grandchildren. Elwin Farnsworth is survived by his dear wife Joyce; children Diane (Milton) Rue, David (Arlene) Farnsworth, Julee (Dean) Ritz, James (Kirsten) Farnsworth and Richard (Michelle) Farnsworth, all of Bismarck, and Janelle (Todd) Crowley of Janesville, 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; an older sister, Mabel Bagley, Belgrade, and his old cat, Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Shirley Farnsworth, Lillian Turney, and Gerald Farnsworth. Elwin Farnsworth will be greatly missed. Elwin Arthur Farnsworth was born April 5, 1928, on the family homestead located three miles southeast of Edgeley, LaMoure County. He was the third of five children born to Elwin Harry and Mabel Lois (Kime) Farnsworth. In his early years, he attended country school. After losing their farm in the drought of the Dust Bowl, the family moved into the town of Edgeley in November 1937. Young Elwin completed school in Edgeley and worked on local farms and did house painting with his uncle Col.

Farnsworth. Following his graduation from Edgeley High School in 1946, Elwin joined the U.S. Army. During this tour of duty, he was part of the U.S. occupation forces in Chinhae, Korea, and served as a radio operator attached to Headquarters Battery, 1st Field Artillery Battalion, 6th Infantry Division.

He returned to North Dakota in 1948, where he went to work for the State Highway Department. As a member of the Army Reserve, he was mobilized when North Korea invaded South Korea in June 1950. Elwin ended up in the Seoul, South Korea Theater of Operations, serving as a vertical control operator in the Artillery Headquarters Battery, 63rd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division. After a period of time in combat, Elwin was assigned to duty in Japan to help with refurbishment and training of replacement troops. In July 1951, Elwin Farnsworth returned to North Dakota and resumed his construction work with the State Highway Department.

While working on a construction project in northwestern North Dakota in the summer of 1952, Elwin met a young bookkeeper Florence Lind Florence was born March 18, 1911, at Emery, S.D., the daughter of Fred and Anna (Fiedler) Huether. She attended school in Parkston, S.D., and graduated from Parkston High School. She married Paul Nueharth on Nov. 21, 1931, at Parkston. Paul passed away in 1944.

Florence married Orvin B. Lind on April 28, 1945, at Glendive, Mont. The couple made their home in Washburn for many years. Florence worked at the Roxy Theatre and as a custodian at Washburn High School until her retirement Orvin, her husband of 54 years, passed away in 1999. She was an active member of the Washburn Senior Center, where she worked as a cook and served as senior center president for several years.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Washburn and enjoyed camping and gardening. She became a resident of the Prairieview Nursing Home in 2001 and was appreciative of the care she received from the nursing home staff. She is survived by one son, Lyle (Betty) Lind, Washburn; five grandchildren, Barb Kuntz, LaMont Lind, Shelly Lester, Tracy Hickman, and Steven Lind; eight great-grandchildren, Travis and Wyatt Doepke, Ryan and Melissa Lind, Darren and Justin Lester, Jerome Lind and Nicholas Lelm; four great-greatgrandchildren, Kaylor, Trent, Hunter and Hannah; one sister, Lucille Goldhammer, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Wilfred Huether, Rapid City, S.D., and Fred Huether, North Platte, her best friend was her son-in-law, Mark Lelm, Washburn; and special friends were Bonnie Kuntz and Midge Whitlock. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Paul Neuharth and Orvin Lind; one grandson, Lonnie Lind, and one brother, Wilmer Huether. 21, 1952, in Fort Carson, to Nick and Evelyn (Schorsch) Koffler. He was raised in New England and graduated from New England St. Mary's High School. He went on to attend North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. After college, he worked for Koffler Manufacturing of New England, was the owner of the Branding Iron Bar and Cafe, then had his own oilfield business doing work for Gulf Oil and then co-owned the Trading Post in Dickinson until returning to work at Koffler Manufacturing.

He married Marge Sparlund Sargent on July 8, 1978, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New England. He was a former member of the New England Fire Department, was an EMT for the New England Ambulance, was an active participant in the Amidon and New England Roping and Saddle Clubs for many years, was a deputy for the Hettinger County Sheriff's Department and was a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club. Michael was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 9675, where he was the first grand knight and later became a fourth-degree member of assembly No.

790. He also received Knight of the Year and was a past district deputy. He was a member of the State Class Wrestling championship team, as well as a state individual champion for the New England St. Mary's Saints for two consecutive years, 1969 and 1970. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting, coaching football and wrestling, and other outdoor sports activities.

He is survived by his wife, Marge, New England; one daughter and son-in-law, Sargianna and Jeremy Wutzke, Bismarck; two sons, Billy and Chris Koffler, both New England; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Jordan Wutzke; one sister and brother-in-law, Reenie and Mike Thorstenson, New England; special uncle and aunt, Frank and June Koffler, East Bethel, his aunts, Lydia Koffler, Eugene, and Dorothy Koffler, Searcy, his nieces, Shelly and Shawn Wolf, Jill and Wade Bock and Kayleen Thorstenson; one great-niece, Emma Bock; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Herb and Gladys Multhaup, New England, Lillian and Fid Fitterer, Great Falls, Fern and Roy Hewson, New England, and Earl and Sandra Sparlund, San Marcos, Calif. Paul was born March 21, 1933, in Wilton, to Fred and Catherine Omafray. He was raised and educated in Wilton and went on to attend Wahpeton School of Science. He then entered the Navy. Paul married Carol Schuler on May 10, 1958, in Wilton. Paul and Carol made their home in Bismarck.

Paul's occupation as a brick mason spanned nearly 40 years. Paul enjoyed the comfort of his home and maintaining his yard. He also enjoyed fishing, current events and his only precious granddaughter, Peyton. Paul is survived by his wife, Carol, Bismarck; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Scott Schmidt, Farmington, his son, Troy Omafray, St. Paul, his granddaughter, Peyton Grace Schmidt, Farmington, age three brothers, Bill (Joann) Omafray, Mobridge, S.D., Mac Omafray, Wilton, and Martin Omafray, Colorado Springs, and two sisters, Eva Fedora, Sidney, and Gen (Jack) Johnson, Mandan.

9, 1921, in rural Glen Ullin, the son of Gregory P. and Philomenia (Nagel) Kastner. He was raised near Haymarsh, attended St. Clement's School and graduated from Glen Ullin High School. Irwin spent most of his life on the Shady Lane farmstead as a farmer and rancher; he was fond of his horses and his registered shorthorn cattle.

Irwin was a member of his family's band that played for dances in the area. As his parents aged, he was dedicated to caring for them on the farm. He enjoyed the country way of life with the older tractors, machinery and the mechanic work that went along with it, as he was a very capable handyman. Irwin had an avid memory for the "good old days" and loved to share stories with anyone who would listen. The most important part of his life was his religion.

He was a devout Catholic who spent much time in prayer. He attended Mass and prayed the rosary as long as he was able. He was a kind, humble man who always tried to live a Christian life. Irwin was a member of the St. Clement's and Sacred Heart parishes, the Knights of Columbus and a past member of the Glen Ullin Saddle Club.

Irwin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Art; his sister, Viola Wanner; and three nephews. He is survived by two brothers, Eugene (Carrie) Kastner, Glen Ullin; Wilfred (Norma) Kastner, Dickinson; and one sister, Coleta Hoepfner, Beulah.
