ing on cell phones. And while the 1987 movie "Wall Street" helped introduce the then-brick-sized mobile phone to popular culture, New York and other Northeast states lag in dropping landlines. Surprisingly, Oklahoma and Utah lead in going wireless, according to federal estimates released Wednesday. At least 26 percent of households are now cell-only in Oklahoma and Utah, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated. That rate was at least 20 percent in nine other states Nebraska, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, New Mexico, Texas, South Carolina and Tennessee and the District of Columbia.

North Dakota's rate was just under 17 percent of households. Associated Press N. Korea accuses U.S. of interference SEOUL, South Korea (AP) North Korea took its first swipe at President Barack Obama on Wednesday, accusing his administration of meddling, though the communist country somewhat toned down its recent harsh, military rhetoric. North Korea has been highly critical of the United States in recent weeks, accusing it of using annual military exercises with South Korea to prepare for an invasion, a claim Washington denies.

Also stoking tensions has been the North's intention to fire a rocket, which it says will be a satellite but that South Korea and other governments believe will be a test of a long-range missile capable of striking U.S. territory. Man survives Niagara Falls plunge NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario (AP) A man jumped into Niagara Falls on Wednesday and survived the 180-foot plunge, then resisted rescue attempts before he eventually was pulled from the icy water to safety, police said. The man, believed to be in his late 30s, was semiconscious when he was taken to a hospital. He lapsed into unconsciousness and was listed in critical condition.

Nia gara Parks Police Chief Doug Kane said the man "voluntarily entered into the water and refused medical assistance at the bottom." He said the man was suffering from hypothermia and a head injury. Specially trained falls rescue crews tried to assist the man, but he swam away from them toward the middle of the river, Kane said. A private helicopter was called in and got close enough to the victim so that wind from its blades forced him close enough to shore for rescuers to reach him. Ex-NYC health official tapped for FDA WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama intends to name former New York City Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg to lead the troubled Food and Drug Administration. Hamburg and Baltimore Health Commissioner Joshua Sharfstein have been talked about for weeks as the leading candidates for the top two spots at the agency, with Sharfstein as Hamburg's deputy commissioner.

On Wednesday, a person close to Hamburg said that announcement was imminent. The two physician-outsiders will be tasked with restoring credibility to an agency that has suffered a string of failures such as repeated food recalls including the massive salmonella outbreak in peanut products. Palin's daughter, boyfriend break up WASILLA, Alaska (AP) The engagement is off for the teenage daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and the father of her baby. Levi Johnston told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he and Bristol Palin mutually decided "a while ago" to end their relationship.

The 19-year-old Johnston declined to elaborate. Eighteen-year-old Bristol Palin says in a statement to the AP that she is "devastated." The two are the parents of a boy named Tripp, who was born Dec. 27. Curtis Cahoon Curtis Lee Cahoon, 27, Mandan, passed away March 6, 2009, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m.
