Juanita Broaddrick's account of the alleged attack by Clinton appeared in Friday's op ed pages of The Wall Street Journal. White House spokesman Joe Lockhart was dismissive of the story. "I spend very little time reading the Wall Street Journal editorial Lockhart told reporters.

"They lost me after they accused the president of being a drug smuggler and a murderer. The story of the alleged attack on Mrs. Broaddrick has been circulating for years. She has refused to comment until now. According to Mrs.

Broaddrick, she first met Clinton when he visited the nursing home she ran in 1978. He was running for governor at the time; she was a campaign worker. Clinton invited her to visit him sometime at campaign headquarters in Little Rock, she said. Mrs. Broaddrick said she was in Little Rock for a nursing home seminar the next week and called campaign headquarters and arranged to meet him for coffee at the hotel where she was staying.

Clinton suggested they have coffee in her room, she said. In the hotel room, Clinton forced her to have sex, Mrs. Broaddrick told the Journal in a detailed account. "I was sexually assaulted by Bill Clinton," Mrs. Broaddrick told The Associated Press in a brief interview Friday.

In the AP interview, she said she did not go to the police at the time "because of the mentality of the '70s. There I was, I was married, I was also in a relationship with another man, and I was there alone in a hotel room with the attorney general and I didn't think anyone would possibly believe Asked why she was telling her story now, she said she was countering rumors that she had been bribed and intimidated to stay quiet. She also did an interview with NBC that has not been broadcast. However, during Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's investigation of the Monica Lewinsky matter, Mrs. Broaddrick told investigators that the affidavit was false, according to a written summary of their interview with her. She was employed by Montana Dakota Utilities as a home economist specializing in cooking and appliance operation demonstrations and seminars throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. In addition, she served as the manager of the Huff Hills Ski Area at Bismarck for several years. Grace married Richard Thomas on Nov. 2, 1974, at Bismarck. They made their home in Minot, where she assisted her husband in the operation of the Thomas Law Firm.

Grace was an avid gardener and antique collector. She had extensive experience and talent in fashion and interior decorating. She is survived by her husband, Richard; her sister and brother-inlaw, Helen and Tom Opp, Grand Forks; her brothers and sisters-inlaw, Tom and Pat Schulz, Minot, Harold and Karen Schulz, Bismarck, Albert and Georgia Schulz, Bismarck, and William and Susan Schulz, Bemidji, several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her stepchildren, William Thomas, Grand Forks, Robert Thomas, Minot, Barbara Thomas, Benica, and Ben Thomas, Fargo.
